- 2 chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
Vegetables
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ head green cabbage, shredded
- ½ jalapeño pepper, finely diced
- 1 orange pepper, diced
Sauces & Liquids
- ½ cup chicken stock
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- Pinch of salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients
Begin by preparing all your ingredients before you start cooking. This is a crucial step in stir-frying since the cooking process happens quickly.
- Thinly slice the chicken breasts into strips for even cooking.
- Slice the onion and orange pepper.
- Mince the garlic and finely dice the jalapeño pepper.
- Shred the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
2. Cook the Chicken
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add the butter.
- Once the butter melts, add the sliced chicken to the pan. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Stir-fry for about 5 to 7 minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked and lightly browned.
- Remove the chicken from the pan and set it aside on a plate.
3. Sauté the Aromatics
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and diced jalapeño, stirring for another minute until fragrant.
4. Cook the Vegetables
- Add the shredded cabbage and diced orange pepper to the pan.
- Pour in the chicken stock, oyster sauce, and soy sauce, stirring well to ensure all the vegetables are evenly coated.
- Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes until the cabbage is tender yet slightly crisp.
5. Combine Everything
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and mix it with the vegetables and sauce.
- Stir-fry for another 2 to 3 minutes, ensuring that everything is heated through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
6. Serve and Enjoy
- Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish and enjoy it as is, or serve it over steamed rice or noodles for a more filling meal.
Notes
1. How to Tell if the Chicken Is Cooked
- The chicken should be firm to the touch and white all the way through. If using a thermometer, ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
2. Preventing Overcooked Vegetables
- Stir-frying happens quickly, so avoid overcooking the vegetables. Cabbage should be tender but still have a slight crunch.
3. Managing the Heat Level
- If you are not a fan of spicy food, remove the seeds from the jalapeño or replace it with a mild bell pepper.
4. Efficient Preparation Tips
- Cut all the ingredients before you start cooking. Since stir-frying happens quickly, having everything ready will make the process smoother.
- Use a large pan or wok to allow enough space for the ingredients to cook evenly.
