Ingredients

Scale

1. 1 Package of Grands Biscuits (8 Biscuits)

The base of this recipe is the biscuit dough. Using pre-packaged Grands biscuits is a convenient shortcut that doesn’t sacrifice flavor or texture. The dough is soft and perfect for creating the fluffy, pillowy texture we desire. It’s also sturdy enough to hold the Nutella filling inside. You can also substitute with any other biscuit dough that you like, but these Grands biscuits give a nice balance of flakiness and softness.

2. ½ Cup Nutella

Nutella is the star of the show, bringing its famous smooth, creamy texture and chocolate-hazelnut flavor to the center of each bomb. Its rich, sweet, and slightly nutty taste pairs perfectly with the churro-inspired cinnamon-sugar coating. The Nutella melts slightly during baking, creating a gooey, decadent filling that contrasts beautifully with the crispy outer layers of the biscuit. You could also experiment with other chocolate spreads if you prefer, but Nutella is the go-to choice for its unique flavor profile and consistency.

3. ½ Cup Unsalted Butter (Melted)

Melted butter is used for brushing onto the biscuits before they are rolled in cinnamon sugar. The butter not only adds richness and flavor but also helps the cinnamon-sugar coating stick to the biscuits, ensuring that each one is perfectly coated. The butter also contributes to the golden brown color of the biscuits as they bake.

4. 1 Cup Granulated Sugar

Granulated sugar is the sweet base for the cinnamon-sugar coating. When combined with cinnamon, it creates a warm, sweet, and slightly spicy exterior that gives the biscuits a delightful crunch. The sugar also adds a glossy finish to the surface of each biscuit bomb. If you want to experiment, you could substitute some of the granulated sugar with brown sugar for a deeper, caramel-like flavor.

5. 1 Tablespoon Ground Cinnamon

Ground cinnamon is essential for achieving that classic churro flavor. The cinnamon adds warmth and spice to the exterior of the Nutella Churro Bombs, creating a mouthwatering contrast to the sweetness of the Nutella filling. If you love cinnamon, feel free to adjust the amount to your taste. For a twist, you can also add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon-sugar mix to elevate the flavor.

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent the biscuits from sticking and to ensure an even bake.

Step 2: Prepare the Biscuits

Open the package of Grands biscuits and separate the individual biscuits. Each biscuit will be used to create a pocket for the Nutella filling. To make the biscuits easier to fill, press each one flat using your fingers or a rolling pin. You want to flatten them just enough to create space for the Nutella filling, but not so much that the dough becomes too thin.

Step 3: Add the Nutella Filling

Spoon about 1 tablespoon of Nutella into the center of each flattened biscuit. Be careful not to overfill, as the Nutella may leak out during baking. Once the Nutella is in place, carefully pinch the edges of the biscuit together, forming a seal around the filling. Roll the biscuit into a ball shape, ensuring the Nutella stays inside.

Step 4: Bake the Biscuit Bombs

Place the prepared Nutella-filled biscuit bombs onto the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are spaced out to allow for even baking. Bake the biscuit bombs in the preheated oven for about 17-22 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the biscuits are fully cooked through. The exact baking time will depend on your oven, so start checking at the 17-minute mark to ensure they don’t over-bake.

Step 5: Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

While the biscuit bombs are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon until well combined. The cinnamon-sugar mixture is what will give the Nutella Churro Bombs their signature flavor.

Step 6: Coat the Bombs

Once the Nutella Churro Bombs are baked to perfection, remove them from the oven and immediately brush each warm biscuit with melted butter. After brushing with butter, roll each biscuit in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, ensuring that the entire surface is covered in a sweet, cinnamon-spiced coating.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

The Nutella Churro Bombs are best enjoyed warm or at room temperature. The gooey Nutella filling will be heavenly when it’s fresh out of the oven, but they’re still delicious when they cool down. Serve them with a cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or milk for the ultimate treat!

Notes

  • Gluten-Free Option: If you need a gluten-free version of this recipe, substitute the Grands biscuits with gluten-free biscuit dough. There are many gluten-free biscuit options available at most grocery stores, so you won’t have to miss out on this delicious treat!
  • Nut-Free Version: If you’re allergic to hazelnuts or prefer a nut-free version of these churro bombs, simply swap out Nutella for a chocolate spread that’s free of nuts, such as a dairy-free chocolate hazelnut spread.
  • Vegan Version: For a vegan version, look for vegan biscuit dough and a dairy-free chocolate spread. Use plant-based butter to brush the biscuits, and make sure the sugar you’re using is vegan-friendly.
  • Add a Twist to the Filling: Instead of Nutella, you could experiment with other fillings such as peanut butter, dulce de leche, or even a fruit jam for a different flavor profile.
