  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For The French Fries:

  • 1 pound potatoes, cut into ¼-inch strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons powdered cheese (can use cheddar cheese powder)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For The Cheese Sauce:

  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (or sour cream for a richer taste)
  • 1 tablespoon taco sauce (or hot sauce for extra spice)
  • 2 teaspoons powdered cheese

For The Salsa Ketchup:

  • 3 tablespoons salsa
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Potatoes

Preheat your oven to 425°F. Wash and peel the potatoes if desired. Cut them into ¼-inch thick strips to ensure even cooking. Rinse the potato strips under cold water to remove excess starch, which helps them crisp up in the oven. After rinsing, pat them dry thoroughly using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

Step 2: Seasoning the Fries

In a large mixing bowl, toss the potato strips with olive oil to ensure they are evenly coated. In a small bowl, mix together the powdered cheese, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and salt. Sprinkle this seasoning blend over the fries and toss again to distribute the spices evenly.

Step 3: Baking the Fries

Spread the seasoned fries out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Make sure the fries are in a single layer with some space between them to allow proper crisping. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure even browning. The fries are done when they are golden brown and crisp on the edges.

Step 4: Making the Cheese Sauce

While the fries are baking, prepare the cheese sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the Greek yogurt, taco sauce, and powdered cheese until smooth. This sauce can be served warm or cold. If you prefer a warmer sauce, microwave it for 10-15 seconds, stirring in between.

Step 5: Preparing the Salsa Ketchup

Combine the salsa and ketchup in a bowl and stir well. This dipping sauce adds a tangy, slightly spicy kick to the fries.

Step 6: Serving the Fries

Once the fries are golden and crispy, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve them immediately with the cheese sauce and salsa ketchup on the side.

Notes

  • Crispy Fries Tip – Dry the potatoes thoroughly after rinsing. Excess moisture can cause them to steam rather than crisp up.
  • Even Cooking Tip – Spread the fries out in a single layer on the baking sheet. Overcrowding can lead to soggy fries.
  • Seasoning Tip – Toss the fries with the seasoning immediately after adding the oil to ensure even coating.
  • Cheese Sauce Consistency – If the sauce is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or water to thin it out. If it is too runny, let it sit in the refrigerator for a few minutes to thicken.
