  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 15 ounces light green candy melts
  • Red candy hearts

Instructions

  • Prepare your workspace by lining a large baking sheet with parchment paper. This will prevent the Oreo balls from sticking and make cleanup a breeze.
  • Using a food processor, pulse the Red Velvet Oreos into fine crumbs. Alternatively, you can place the cookies in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin until you achieve the desired texture.
  • In a large mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with an electric hand mixer on high speed until smooth. Gradually add the Oreo crumbs to the cream cheese and mix until fully combined. The mixture should be dense and easy to mold.
  • Using a 1.5-inch cookie scoop, portion out the mixture and roll it into smooth balls with your hands. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Refrigerate the Oreo balls for at least two hours. This step is crucial to ensure they hold their shape during the coating process.
  • Set aside half a cup of candy melts for drizzling later if desired. Melt the remaining candy melts in a double boiler over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Be cautious not to overheat or introduce water, as this can cause the candy to seize.
  • Using a fork or toothpick, dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted candy coating. Gently tap the fork on the edge of the pot to remove excess coating, then place the coated balls back onto the baking sheet.
  • For added decoration, drizzle the reserved melted candy over the coated balls. To do this, melt the reserved candy melts in a microwave-safe piping bag on a defrost setting for 30 seconds at a time, massaging the bag between intervals. Snip a small tip off the bag and drizzle over the balls.
  • While the drizzle is still wet, press a red candy heart onto each Oreo ball to complete the Grinch-inspired design.
  • Return the decorated Oreo balls to the refrigerator to set completely. Once firm, they are ready to serve.

Notes

  • Chill the Oreo balls thoroughly before dipping them in the candy coating to prevent cracking and ensure they hold their shape.
  • If you don’t have green candy melts, white chocolate can be used as an alternative. Add oil-based green food coloring to achieve the signature Grinch hue. Avoid water-based food coloring, as it may cause the chocolate to seize.
  • Store the Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. They’re an excellent make-ahead dessert for busy holiday schedules.
  • Freeze uncoated Oreo balls for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator before coating and decorating.
