  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour: Provides structure to the cookie dough.
  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar: Adds sweetness and a smooth texture.
  • 1 pinch fine sea salt: Balances the sweetness and enhances the peppermint flavor.
  • ¾ cup salted butter, softened: Creates a creamy, rich base.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar: Sweetens and adds a slightly granular texture.
  • 3 tablespoon whole milk: Helps bind the dough and adds moisture.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: Adds warmth and depth to the flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract: Brings that festive minty flavor (adjust to taste).
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (optional): Adds creamy, sweet bursts to every bite.
  • ⅓ cup peppermints, crushed: For a crunchy, minty texture and a festive touch.

Instructions

1. Heat-Treat the Flour

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Spread the flour evenly on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes to kill any harmful bacteria. Let the flour cool completely before using it in the recipe.

2. Prepare the Dry Ingredients

  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the cooled flour, powdered sugar, and sea salt. Set this dry mixture aside.

3. Cream the Wet Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, use a stand mixer or hand mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract. Mix on medium-high speed for 3–5 minutes until smooth and fluffy.

4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Reduce the mixer speed to low. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, about ⅓ to ½ cup at a time. Mix just until the dry ingredients are fully incorporated. Avoid overmixing.
  • Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure all ingredients are well blended.

5. Add Mix-Ins

  • Fold in the white chocolate chips and crushed peppermints using a spatula. These add texture and festive flair to the dough.

6. Serve

  • Scoop the dough into serving bowls or onto a platter. Garnish with festive sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  1. Heat-Treat the Flour
    • This step is essential for safety, as raw flour can contain harmful bacteria. Ensure it cools completely before use.
  2. Adjust the Peppermint Flavor
    • Start with 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract and add more if you prefer a stronger minty taste.
  3. Customize Your Add-Ins
    • Swap white chocolate chips for dark or semi-sweet chocolate. Add festive sprinkles or chopped nuts for variety.
  4. Use Softened Butter
    • Softened butter blends more easily with the sugar, creating a smoother dough.
